Faster install. Same result.

Core product — available now
Snap lock panels deliver all the clean aesthetics of standing seam without requiring a mechanical seaming tool — making them the preferred profile for residential contractors who want speed without sacrificing quality.

Built for the job.

Each panel comes off our machine with slotted nail flanges formed right into the profile. No clips, no extra hardware — and thermal expansion is handled the same way vinyl siding has done it for decades.

Full specs.

Available in 1″ and 1.5″ seam heights. Panels click together on the seam and are held by a sliding clip that allows thermal movement — no seaming tool required at any stage of installation.

Where it's used.

This profile is suited to a wide range of building types and project scales — from residential to large commercial.

Residential roofing

Snap lock is the most installed standing-seam-style panel in residential construction. The speed advantage is real — an experienced crew can install significantly more linear footage per day compared to a mechanically seamed system, without compromising the finished appearance.

Steep-slope commercial

For commercial buildings with steeper pitches — retail, institutional, light industrial — snap lock gives you the architectural look of standing seam at a lower installation cost. No seaming tool means no equipment rental and no specialist crew required.

Re-roofing projects

When re-roofing over an existing structure with a batten or strapping system, snap lock panels are often the practical choice. Lighter handling, faster installation, and no powered seaming tool in tight spaces make the job straightforward.

01

Layout & clips

Mark layout lines and install thermal sliding clips at the specified spacing. The sliding clip design is critical — it allows panels to expand and contract with Alberta’s temperature swings without buckling.
02

Panel run

Start at one rake edge and run panels from eave to ridge. Each panel hooks over the clip and onto the previous panel’s seam — no separate locking step needed.
03

Snap the seam

Walk the seam to confirm each panel has fully engaged. Unlike mechanical seaming, there’s no powered tool — a firm hand pressure along the seam locks it. Use a seam roller for long runs.
04

Trim & flashings

Install colour-matched ridge cap, eave trim, rake trim, and any custom brake-formed flashings. Order all trim with your panels to guarantee colour match.

FAQs.

Is snap lock really as watertight as standing seam?

For steep-slope applications (3:12 and above), snap lock performs comparably to standing seam in real-world conditions. The snap engagement creates a tight seam that handles wind-driven rain effectively. For low-slope applications below 3:12, we recommend mechanically seamed panels instead — the mechanical lock provides a tighter closure suitable for lower pitches.

Non-ribbed panels have a flat face between seams — a clean, minimal look popular in contemporary architecture. Ribbed panels have a central rib that adds visual depth and helps stiffen the panel face, reducing the “oil-canning” effect on wider panel widths. Both are available from Onsite Metals in the same gauges and colours.
Yes — this is one of the most important details in a snap lock installation. Fixed clips will cause panels to buckle as they expand and contract with temperature changes. All Onsite Metals snap lock clips are thermal sliding clips. If you’re comparing quotes from different suppliers, confirm what clip type is included.
Snap lock is one of the more DIY-accessible metal roofing profiles — no specialist seaming equipment, no powered tools beyond standard fastener guns. That said, proper clip installation, flashing details, and underlayment are critical to a watertight roof. We can provide technical documentation and installation guidance for trade customers.
